Marshunda's Working Framework
Maarshunda's work is guided by the Audience-Centered Performance Framework — the framework behind my programming, leadership, and educational practice.
She designs performances that treat audiences as active participants rather than passive recipients, without compromising musical rigor or artistic standards. The result is programming that strengthens audience connection, supports musicians, and builds long-term institutional trust.
My Story
I came to conducting through the long way around — as a student, a cellist, an educator, and a community builder before standing regularly on the podium. Over time, I noticed a persistent gap between the musical excellence orchestras worked so hard to achieve and the way audiences actually experienced performances. Too often, listeners were expected to meet the music on institutional terms rather than being invited into it as living culture.
In my work across orchestras, schools, and community-based ensembles, I began intentionally shaping performances that honored musical rigor while actively considering audience understanding, emotional arc, and continuity. These choices consistently resulted in deeper engagement, stronger trust with musicians, and audiences who returned with curiosity rather than obligation. What began as instinctive practice gradually became a deliberate, repeatable approach.
That approach is now articulated as the Audience-Centered Performance Framework, which guides my programming, leadership, and educational work.
